Overall, I would have to say that the halibut reports that we have been getting from the Straits and the local halibut spots have not been anything like it was last year! Not to say that we have not been hearing of halibut being caught but overall the success rate is far below last years. With the better tides this past weekend we though that we should have seen better results than we saw during the first week of the season. It was in fact a little better but not significantly such. The outer banks such as Eastern, Dallas, Partridge and Hein put out a few fish, but nothing was better than anyplace else. All I can say is that it is what it is and all that one can do is to go out and put in some time. One thing that I can pass on is that the guys that anchored and put in the time seemed to do better than those that drifted. Two more weeks of fishing left for the season on the Eastern Straits and Puget Sound.
