Action: Closes harvest of hatchery chinook in Area 10, except Sinclair Inlet, and specifically identified fishing piers. Elliot Bay and Shilshole Bay remain closed to salmon fishing.
Effective Date: Effective 12:01 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2012.
Species affected: Chinook salmon.
Location: Marine Area 10 (Bremerton/Seattle), except Inner Elliott Bay Fishery, Sinclair Inlet Fishery, Elliott Bay Fishing Pier, Seacrest Pier, Waterman Pier, Bremerton Boardwalk, and Illahee State Park Pier.
Reason for action: Estimates indicate that encounters with wild (unmarked) chinook have exceeded the preseason expectations which were set to ensure compliance with conservation objectives and agreed-to management plans.
Other information: Area 10 remains open to salmon fishing for coho, pink, and sockeye. Release chinook and chum. Elliot Bay and Shilshole Bay remain closed to salmon fishing. Sinclair Inlet, Edmonds, Elliott Bay Fishing Pier, Seacrest Pier, Waterman Pier, Bremerton Boardwalk, and Illahee State Park Pier are regulated under separate rules. Anglers should consult the Fishing in Washington, Sports Fishing Rules pamphlet for specific regulations in those areas.
