Emergency Chinook Closure for Marine Area 9 - Effective 12:01 a.m. Monday August 20

August 17, 2012

Chinook harvest closes after Aug. 19 in Marine Area 9

Action: Closes harvest of hatchery chinook in Area 9, except at the Edmonds Fishing Pier.
Effective Date: Effective 12:01 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2012.
Species affected: Chinook salmon.
Location: Marine Area 9 (Admiralty Inlet), except Edmonds Fishing Pier.
Reason for action: Estimates indicate that encounters with wild (unmarked) Chinook have exceeded the preseason expectations which were set to ensure compliance with conservation objectives and agreed-to management plans.
Other information: All chinook must now be released in Area 9, except at the Edmonds Fishing Pier. Release chinook and chum. Area 9 remains open to salmon fishing for coho, pink, and sockeye. The Edmonds Fishing Pier is regulated under separate rules. Anglers should consult the Fishing in Washington, Sports Fishing Rules pamphlet for specific regulations for the Edmonds Fishing Pier.
