Baker Lake Sockeye

The sockeye fishing has continued to be quite good at Baker Lake. Most of the guys have been finding them in the 45 - 50 foot depths in the Noisey Creek section of the lake. Make sure that you are there and ready to fish at the crack of dawn as the bite has been during the first few hours of daylight and slows down substantially after 8:00. Most everyone is fishing a 0/0 or 0 dodger in chrome, chrome with silver scalite or hammered chrome followed by a single or double red hook on a 20 or 25 pound leader. Some anglers are topping the leader with a couple of small beads followed with a small pink "Mac's" Smile Blade for additional attraction. Some angers are fishing small pink squids behind the dodger. You will also find some of them are tipping the hooks with a small piece of red or pink dyed raw shrimp. The old traditional U20 flatfish in fluorescent red, silver with red dots, silver or gold has also accounted for good catches. Most fish are showing a tad bit of blush, but are still in "Great" shape for the table. This fishery should continue for at least a few more weeks. Fish have been good sized with around a 6 pound average.
