Baker Lake - Sockeye Reports

The Baker Lake sockeye fishery continued to put out good numbers of fish over the weekend. I spoke with a number of our regular customers that all did quite well this weekend. Everyone that did well all said the same thing. "Get there early, as the bite goes off around 7:30." The fish have been averaging a good 6 -7 pounds with a few up to 9. The fish have been still in a shallow mood with the greatest number being caught in the 15 - 25 foot range. Pink mini squids tipped with a piece of shrimp fished behind a #0 dodger in chrome, hammered chrome or chrome silver scalite finishes have accounted for the vast majority of fish. Make sure to fish slowly in the 1 - 1.2 mph range. This fishery should continue for quite some time as they are still trapping sockeye in the Baker River traps.
