Winter Blackmouth Fishing

The winter blackmouth fishery continues to be very lackluster! Most of the guys we have spoke with have had a very hard time finding even a single fish a day! The hard core "Old Salts" are averaging perhaps a fish a day, and they are working quite hard to even come up with one. The only thing I can say about this season is that we have been seeing nice sized fish in the catches with the greatest numbers falling in the 8 - 15 pound range. There has definitely been a lack of smaller 15 - 21 inch fish as well as medium 22 - 28 inch fish. It appears that we have two year classes of fish that for the most part are missing from the fishery. Unfortunately, this does not look good for the future. Hopefully, these fish are hiding out somewhere the fishermen are not! I hope that is the case!

What fish that have been caught have been taken on a wide variety of gear! There has not been any "Hot" items so far this winter - so continue to fish your favorite offerings.
