Skagit Sockeye Fishery
We have had a good number of guys gearing up this week for tomorrow's Skagit River Sockeye opener. The stretch of river from the Memorial Hwy Bridge in Mount Vernon to the mouth of Gilligan Creek (above Sedro Wooley) will open with a 3 sockeye limit (minimum of 12 inches). This is the fist time this stretch of the river has been open for sockeye and will be quite interesting to see how folks do. Most have been gearing up with plunking gear and Spin N Glo's in size 4 - 6 - 8 in pink colors have been the choice for most as well as sand shrimp of dyed coon stripe shrimp to bait there hooks. Some are also including a small pink mini hoochie over their hooks. With the warmer weather I am sure we will see some snow melt the next few days and a decrease in the visibility and and increase in water height. More when it opens!
