Rotators / Wannabees - New Shipment Tomorrow - Saturday September 1st

With the beach fisheries as fantastic as they have been the past couple of weeks we have been going through beach gear just about as fast as we can get it unpacked.  The hot lure of choice this season has been the larger size Rotators in Chartreuse with Chartreuse Mylar, Chartreuse with Chartreuse Mylar on one side and Lime Green on the other; Pearl White with Pearl Mylar is another good choice.  We once again ran out of these lure today and will have another shipment being deliverd tomorrow.  If you need us to hold some for you give us a call and we will do just that. PS:  The Island fisheries are as good as we have seen in many years.

Coho Salmon - Marine Area 9 & 10

We have seen nothing but rave reports coming from all the salmon fishermen coming in the past couple of days.  Most everyone has no problem in catching their limit of nice 4 -7 pound coho with a few going up to 13.  You do not have to travel far to find fish, the shoreline from the Browns Bay area all the way to West Point has been the best producing area.  The AM fishing has been best with the time frame from dawn 5:45  to 9:00 has been most productive, though folks are definitely catching fish throughout the day.  Most have been fishing from the surface to around 50 feet, with the 20 - 35 foot zone producing well early.  Latter in the day most of the fish drop down into the 70 -90 foot zone though there are still some good bites that are occurring shallow.   Hot Spot Flashers or Jim Break Away Flashers in White Glow or Green Glow with a 140, 142, 161 or 12 colored Gold Star Squid or Ace Hi Fly fished 32 inches behind has been doing well.  Green/Chartreuse Grand Slam Bucktails or Olympic Coho flies in the candlefish or white colors have also been doing well.  For those without downriggers a small plug cut herring fished behind 6 - 8 ounces of lead or a diver / dodger / coho fly or squid combination has been a good bet.

Coho Fishing - Edmonds Area

The past couple of days have seen nothing but good coho fishing in the Edmonds area.  We have had countless numbers of guys in the past two days that have mentioned how good the coho fishing has been for them.  Most everyone has had no problems in getting their limits  and if they didn't it was a matter that they were trying to get larger fish to take home and were picky about the size.  Most of the fish have been in the 4 - 7 pound range with a few that a pushing up to 13.  Though fish that are really 8 - 13 pounds are very few and far between.  Fish have been fairly shallow in the first few hours with anglers finding them from the surface down to fifty feet.  Many anglers have been successful dragging a plug cut herring with 4 - 8 ounces of lead.  Fishing Deep 6 divers with a dodger squid/coho fly combination has been very successful for those not having downriggers.  If you have a desire to get in some coho fishing this season, the next two weeks should provide the best opportunity.  If you have any questions on what to use or how to rig gear up just stop by and we'll be glad to give you a hand.

New Shipment - Rotators/Wannabees

We just received another shipment of the ever popular Rotators yesterday afternoon.  We have them in the Chartreuse/w Chartreuse Mylar, Chartreuse/w Lime Green Mylar and Chartreuse with Chartreuse Mylar on one side and Lime Green on the other side.  These have been without a doubt the most popular colors this season.  We have a fair number at the present time, but I don't expect them to last more than another day or so before we are out again.  We have a lot more on order and will be getting them on a fairly regular basis.  Give us a call and we can put them away for you.  (425) 743-9505.

Lake Chelan Area Report - Anton Jones - Darrell & Dad's Family Guide Service

  What’s hot is trolling for Lake Trout on Lake Chelan near Mill Bay early in the morning and late in the evening.  Also hot, is trolling for Lake Trout in the early evening uplake of Wapato Point.

    The early morning and late evening bite below Wapato Point on Lake Chelan continues to produce some nice fish.  Worden Lures T4 Flatfish in either Luminous Chartreuse or Purple Glow fished 100’ back with a one pound ball taking it to the bottom has produced the majority of our bigger fish.  Mack Lures Cha Cha Squidders baited with a piece of Northern Pikeminnow off the downriggers has produced fish too.  A speed of 1.4 mph has worked best. 

    Fishing just above Wapato Point later in the afternoon and focusing on those Cha Cha’s has gotten good numbers of eating sized Lakers to bite.  Look for depths of 165’ to 195’ to locate those fish. 

    This is a great time to begin gearing up in anticipation of another fall on Rufus Woods.  We usually prepare for three different methods to fish for those delicious Triploid Rainbows that have made Rufus one the more popular fisheries in the Northwest.  First, we like to troll.  Usually that means Action Disks by Wiggle Fin in front of a Wooly Bugger style fly.  Second, we stock up on jigs in the 1/16^th and 1/32^nd ounce sizes to jig vertically on those fish.  Third and last, we stock up on Patuzke’s Firebait to anchor up and catch fish when they just aren’t biting artificials.  

    Your fishing tip of the week is to rig your gear ahead of time.  We usually have 3 set ups pre-rigged to sub in or to replace losses.  We also have a spare rod and reel pre-rigged so that if we snag and lose a bunch of line, we don’t have “down time” re-rigging.  You don’t want to lose valuable time on the water tying knots and re-rigging gear.  Do it in the comfort of your home. 

    The kid’s tip of the week is to use “work arounds” to avoid unnecessary conflict with school age children.  An example is the kid continually asking what time it is.  Being a smart aleck, I normally say:  “Time for you to buy a watch”.  But then I usually follow-up and tell them to flip open my cell phone and look at the time any time they want.  That helps the adults from getting annoyed and gets the kid what they want. 

    The safety tip of the week is to check that grease on trailer axle bearings.  This the time of the year where water intrusion can create problems for you after a summer of highway trailering and lots of in and out of the water time.  An ounce of prevention…

Continued Good Coho Fishing

The coho fishing continues to be quite good here in Marine Area 9.  We have had numerous folks in today that had good fishing both from the beaches on the west side of Whidbey Island as well as the boat fishermen fishing the Possession Bar as well as those fishing the Edmonds shoreline from the Spainish House area north of the Edmond's Ferry slip all the was down to West Point below the Ship Canal.  So far this has been an outstanding early coho season and by the indicators we are seeing we should be seeing some good coho fishing for some time to come.

New Shipment on Rotators

For those of you that have been awaiting a "New" shipment of Rotators (Wannabee's) we just recieved a batch of the larger models in Chartruse/w Chartruse Mylar, Chartruse/w Lime Green Mylar and Pink/w pink mylar.  We had just a few hundred come in this afternoon and a good number have already gone out the door.  If you need some give us a call and we can put some away for you.  We will have more coming this next week.

Edmond's Coho Derby - September 8, 2012

Don't forget to mark your calendar for the Edmond's Coho Derby coming up on Saturday September 8th.  With the good coho fishing that we have been seeing this week the ticket sales have been quite brisk!  Tickets again this year are $30.00 per entry and everyone on the boat needs to have one.  As in the past Anthony's Restaurants has thrown in a $15.00 gift certificate good toward the purchase of two dinners Monday - Thursday during October.

Beach Fishing - Whidbey Island

We have had nothing but good reports coming from the western beaches of Whidbey Island this week.  Everyone has been doing well and are all ranting about the number of fish that they are seeing coming through the area.  Yesterday we were just deluged with folks gearing up for the beach fisheries.  With the word getting out I am sure that there will be good numbers of folks trying their luck at Bush, Lagoon and Fort Casey.  For those of you fishing Casey, make sure you have a "Discovery" pass - as it is a State Park!  We have everything you need for the beaches.  Buzz Bombs, Rotators, Krocodiles, Floats etc.  We'll be happy to get you geared up for this fishery and send you out with the right information.

Great Coho Fishing - Edmonds

The reports that we have had this morning have been off the wall in the Edmonds area.  Everyone that we have spoken with has had outstanding fishing this morning with easy limits the rule.  The fishing was in fact so good that most everyone was able to be very selective about the fish they kept and in fact let the smaller 5-6 pound fish go to catch larger ones.  With the reports that we have been getting from the Straits and Neah Bay we should see some very good fishing for some time.  Stop by and we'll be glad to give you a run down on some of the most productive gear.  With fishing this good you do not want to wait to get out!
