Ticket sales for the popular Edmonds Coho Derby have been very brisk and most everyone is getting excited as we have been seeing a few more coho in the catches this past few weeks. Some of those in fact have been some real toads. I saw a picture of one caught out of Shilshole this past week that would have been in the upper teens. Though the numbers are not high enough to really get anyone out there and targeting them as of yet the time is just around the corner. The Sekiu reports have been getting better with every day.
Anyway, don't wait until its too late to purchase your derby tickets, with just 1,000 I am sure they will sell out early just as they did last year.
Tickets are $30.00 ea and included with the ticket is the very popular $15.00 Anthony's Home Port Coupon.

Skykomish Steelhead
Though most everyone has been chasing kings in the saltwater over the past month and a half, steelheading has been taking a back seat. John went up to Reiter yesterday and managed to catch and release a couple of fish. He said there was no competition at all angler wise! He said that both of the fish were nice and bright.
With the weatherman talking about a fair amount of rain for Sunday night and Monday there is a good chance that it will really get those stale summerruns motivated and in a better biting mood. Hopefully, we will see a little rise in the river height and with that a good bite.
If you are tired of salmon and want to get a little change you might dust off the steelhead gear and head up to the river.

Area 9 - King Salmon Fishing
We are getting down to the end of the king season here in Marine Area 9 and the fishing is still holding up quite well. We saw some really good fishing yesterday in the tin shed area off Cultus Bay. Many of our customers had limits of mid sized hatchery kings on the AM outgoing tide. It seemed that most were fishing plugs in the 4 - 6 inch range and it was all over the board as to Tomics or Silver Hordes. It seemed everyone caught their fish on something different. This seasons favorites in the Tomic 602, 603 and 600 patterns all seemed to turn up as well as Silver Horde plugs in the 4 & 5 inch models in the 60 and 61 patterns as well as their "New" Purple UV Canadian models. We even had one of the guys that did his best on the old 126 (Plain Pearl White) which is as old school as you can get. No Glow! No UV! Guess the fish weren't told that was a No! No! In the old days (late 60's and 70's) I couldn't tell you how many kings that I caught on this "Old School" plug. Countless!
Anyway, we also saw a few days on Point No Point that were as good as you could have wanted on Sunday and Monday.
We have also been getting "Good" reports from the Edmonds - Richmond Beach area with both the trollers and moochers accounting for some good catches.
With the king season ending next Tuesday, August 31st and with the fishing still holding up quite well, it might be a good idea to plan a day or two on the water before things are through.

Tuna Trips
Mark Coleman of All Rivers & Saltwater Charters has recently purchased a new 29' Defiance with twin Honda's with which he will be running albacore tuna trips out of Westport this next month. Unlike the typical Westport charter he will be fishing small groups of four to six anglers. Which will allow you to put together your own group of friends for a custom tuna trip. Being a smaller and faster boat you will be able to run to the grounds in a third the time of the typical charter boat, give you more time on the water fishing and be able to get in at a reasonable time to be home for dinner.
Mark will be able to cater to your tuna fishing desires. Trolling, Live Bait, Jigging, Swim Baits and even Fly Fishing. For those of you looking for a more personalized tuna trip Mark will be the one to be able to provide this for you.
Give him a call!

Point No Point - Hot King Bite - Sunday & Monday
Point No Point had a really "Hot" Chinook bite the past couple of days on the AM outgoing tide through the low water. The moochers really did a number on the kings with numerous fish on virtually any time during the tide. Hopefully, we will see a day or two more of this quality of fishing. Remember, If you are a troller "Please" stay out of the moochers as you don't want any conflict amongst fishermen. If you must troll, fish the area west of the moochers off Norwegian Point and into Skunk Bay. When the tide turns and starts to flood you can fish the flats south of Point No Point and south toward Pilot Point, Eglon, Apple Tree Point and Kingston. There were "Lots" of kings landed in the teens through the mid twenties the past couple of days.

Richmond Beach - King Salmon
Though it was a tad bit lumpy and windy this AM, there was a "Fair" bite in the Richmond Beach area. We have had fairly good reports coming from this area this past week. One of the customers had 3 nice teen sized kings mooching in this area before they decided to call it quits. There were a few brave souls that went out onto the Possession Point and they managed to land a few fish before the weather got the better of them and called it quits.
By the way, we have seen a couple of ocean silvers showing up in the catches this week. Wouldn't say that there are enough to target them at the present time, but they would make a good bonus if you happen to land one. They should get more numerous with each passing day.

Columbia River - Buoy 10
Spoke with Jim Stahl of J & J Guide Service this AM to see what was happening on the Columbia River / Buoy 10in the past few days. Jim already had a 28 and 34 pound king in the box. He said that the fishing has rapidly improved over the past few days and that the coho were starting to show in fairly good numbers. With the extreme minus tides over for the month the fishing should just get better through the end of the month. Jim has a few openings left in his schedule, if you would like to go he can be contacted at the following number.
